Author's opinion on Perus and the Nine Moons: The Stolen Sun
At the heart of this story is Perus, a fifteen-year-old boy with the soul of a hero—not because he seeks glory, but because he dares to dream. A gifted runner, Perus finds solace not in the bustling underground world of Apelios, but in the quiet wildness of rocks and mountains. He is training for the Contest of Mastery, a grueling race in which competitors must collect tokens. The prize? A chance to leave the subterranean realm and see the stars—distant, mythical lights he knows only from legends.
Perus longs to win, not for fame, but to fulfill a deep yearning to gaze upon the sky above. Yet he feels invisible, unsupported, and alone—believing no one has faith in him. The truth, however, is more complex, and his journey becomes as much about self-belief as it is about physical endurance. That inner transformation is a powerful theme running through the narrative.
But just as the race reaches its most critical moment, disaster strikes. In a courageous act to save another contestant, Timoteo, Perus confronts a deadly creature known as a pantonis. The encounter ends with him falling into the mysterious abyss called The Crack—and into an entirely new reality.
From that point forward, the story shifts into a richer, more fantastical register. Perus encounters strange beings, learns startling truths about the universe, and undergoes profound change. By the time he returns to Apelios, he is no longer the boy who ran to escape—he is someone who has faced darkness, gained wisdom, and now sees clearly the lines between good and evil.
This is a coming-of-age tale steeped in wonder, danger, and quiet transformation. Perus is a compelling protagonist, and his journey will resonate with any reader who has ever dared to dream beyond the limits of their world.
